Would you agree that times are tough?! Right now more than ever, people are having difficulty paying their bills and making their monthly payments. Michigan has been hit extremely hard between employment layoffs and a housing market that flew down the drain extremely fast and seemingly out of no where. Is it a struggle to make your monthly payments? It might not be a financial struggle for you right now, but would you still like to be able to live debt free?

There are lots of options out there when it comes to paying off your unsecured debt. The Debt Settlement Program has been one of the leading debt settlement companies in the country with their new cutting edge program. What is so revolutionary about this program is that they do not charge any upfront fees or out of pocket fees. Another amazing point of this company is that they are performance based which means that they do not receive payment for their services until they settle your debt! No money until there is a done deal! By having this type of company structure, they could not be more motivated to settle your debt any faster. They negotiate your debt with your creditors to settle for a small amount than the balance you originally had! Visit their website The Debt Settlement Program about their Simple Plan, or give them a call at 1-877-386-3603

Foreclosures in Michigan are showing a decline of about 13% in January. A possible reason for this decline is due to the large amount of short sales that are being processed. Both processes: foreclosure and short sales affect your credit in a negative way. The main obvious reason for partaking in these actions is financial strain. How would you like to possibly clear up some money every month to be able to apply towards your mortgage?

Michigan Middle-Class Filing For Bankrutpcy Like Never Before

The hard-working American middle-class is filing bankruptcy in higher numbers than ever before, and Michigan is one of the top states battling this war. It’s not the rich, nor the poor, but the middle-class that is falling behind on all payments quicker than they can catch up, and it’s costing them their credit score, their financial future, and their wallet.

In the past, the path to financial freedom in Michigan has been a college degree and home ownership. These days, the path to financial freedom and success is anyone’s guess. Michigan’s bankruptcy numbers were over 53,000 last year, and are already at that number so far this year. That’s almost 4,500 Michigan residents filing for bankruptcy every single month.

The proportion of bankruptcy filers who have been to college, whether they dropped out or graduated, increased from 46.5% in 1991 to 58.9% in 2007, a recent study called “The Vulnerable Middle Class: Bankruptcy and Class Status” has found.

Wrap this amazing number around your head; 100,000 middle-class Americans filed for bankruptcy every single month in 2007, and that number has only grown. That’s every month that 100,000 hard working Americans toss in the towel, throw up the white flag, and give up to financial ruin.

The study found that many college graduates are not graduating with the forward momentum that they used to. That forward momentum that would get them to financial freedom and avoid bankruptcy has been hindered by the outrageously high costs of college and the time it takes to pay back student loans.

The falling value in middle-class homes has also created a huge problem and led many into bankruptcy. While a home and a fixed income used to be an American consumer’s nest-egg, it has now become a burden. Most American’s these days are paying more then there home is worth, burying themselves in debt from fraudulent second and third mortgages that they can’t afford.

In this domino effect, as USA Today puts it, student loans matched with the failing housing market matched with record high unemployment rates, and the middle-class just didn’t stand a chance. While foreclosures brought more bankruptcy filings, new homes were just not being built which led to more jobs lost in the construction industry, which led to more bankruptcies.

When times were good, many middle-class admit to living beyond their means. It’s now, when so many are filing for bankruptcy, that many are learning the value of money again and hopefully teaching younger generations of their financial flaws.

If you’re thinking about filing for banrupcty, think about giving us a call first. Michigan bankruptcy laws can be confusing, and once you cross that line there is no turning back. Consider debt settlement negotiations first. Call us today for a free debt consultation at 1-888-386-3607.

Michigan Holiday Shopping

Are you saving your Michigan holiday shopping for the big sales? Maybe waiting for Black Friday before you open that wallet up for friends and family? Well, you’re not alone. Everyone is saving, searching for the best deals, and being more financially responsible with the little budget they might have for holiday shopping.

While a steady decline in Michigan sales since last October has slightly leveled off, amazingly sales of electronics have gone up, as well as online sales. It’s no surprise that online sales are increasing, now that consumers have become both more financially responsible as well as more internet savvy.

Feel free to contact us at 1-888-386-3607 or fill out the form below to have one of our associates contact you.

[contact-form]

Another big seller, if you can say ‘big seller’, this Black Friday will be ‘gifts of lasting value’, as the Wall Street Journal says. Besides shopping for bargain, consumers will also be looking for practical gifts that will last. With unemployment rates at 10 to 15 percent in some places, it’s not really a surprise that consumers are looking for quality items that can withstand the test of time. Who knows what will happen in the future with this economy?

“Retailers have to dig deep and pull out their A-game right now, because it is a very competitive environment,” Mr. Snyder said. “Whereas you might have given something more trendy in the past, a down comforter is relevant to what is happening right now.” (WSJ)

So, how do you keep your Michigan holiday spending within reason this holiday season? It’s all about how you pay. Cash is always best, and while many more consumers will be using cash this year because they’ve learned financial responsibility, many will still use their credit cards. If you must use credit, chose the card with the lowest APR. If you have the funds coming in to pay off your credit spending within a reasonable amount of time, put all your holiday purchases on one credit card, preferably the one with the lowest APR and highest available balance.

But, you say you want those amazing deals that you can only get with a store credit card? Well, then get it, but make all of your holiday purchases with that card at that store. Don’t use another credit card for another family member at another store. This is how the domino effect takes over your credit debt.

This store may have a great deal for Uncle Buck, but that store has a better deal for Aunt Petunia. How can you possibly pick one relative over the other, one store credit card over the other? You’re going to have to if you’re working to keep your credit balance and debt low. Chose one store that you want to get the best deals from, and do all of your holiday shopping at that single store. This will help you stay out of debt.

Sure, you can use your credit card during the holidays, if your financially responsible and completely able to pay off what you spend within a short period of time. If you do get yourself into trouble, give us a call at 1-888-386-3607.

Michigan credit card rate hikes; it’s everywhere you look. Credit card companies are raising credit card interest rates like you would not believe, unless you are a victim of this latest trend. It’s a trend that’s hurting consumers who are already struggling with debt and unemployment, while the credit card companies CEO’s are “struggling” to keep their million dollar incomes.

The Credit Card Act of 2009 that was signed few months back by President Obama wasn’t supposed to go into effect until 2010, but with the amazing rate at which credit card companies are raising rates in Michigan to beat the imposing Act, congress is deciding whether to enforce the new rules immediately.

When it passes the Senate, credit card companies will no longer be able to instantly raise your rates, they will have to give you 45 days notice and options for repayment.

Rate hikes are happening across the board with every Michigan credit card company. They are all racing to beat the Credit Card Act deadline, all racing to make an extra buck, and American consumers are suffering. Whether your credit is nearly 800, or below 500, you are getting a rate increase and probably a limit decrease without any warning. On top of those interest hikes and limit decreases, credit card companies are charging new and outrageous fees for everything under the sun, hoping to make up time before the Credit Card Act gets enforced.

A study by the Pew Charitable Trusts, released late last month, concluded that the 12 largest banks, issuing more than 80 percent of the credit cards, were continuing to use practices that the Fed concluded were “unfair or deceptive” and that in many instances had been outlawed by Congress. – New York Times

The reason for all of these increases is the amount of unclaimed and unpaid debt floating around out there. Well, that’s according to the credit card companies. It’s true that the percentage of credit card debt that the credit card companies have written off has soared to 9.6%, but every consumer is being punished and not just the ones not making the payments.

“We sell credit; we don’t sell sweaters,” said Kenneth J. Clayton, senior vice president for card policy at the American Bankers Association. “The only way to manage your return is through the price of the product or the availability.” – New York Times

Credit card companies are racing to create new credit card programs that will adhere to the new credit card rules. Some, who are trying to win back consumer’s trust, are creating cards with no rewards and one interest rate across the board. Others have stopped charging fees for exceeding credit limits, while still others are offering options for paying down debt more quickly.

The days of walking into a Detroit store and just throwing something on the credit card are probably over due to the higher interest rates, lower credit limits, and the tough time you’ll have even trying to get a credit card in the first place. With the new Credit Card Act of 2009 comes stricter rules for banks and thus the banks are going to enforce even stricter guidelines for credit approval.

Not too long ago we brought up the possibility of a Michigan first time home buyer tax credit extension. Well, we’re no longer seeing a possibility, because the extension has become a reality. It’s a great thing for the real estate industry in Michigan, as well as first time home buyers.

The new deadline for the first time homebuyer tax credit is April 30, 2010, which gives buyers, and sellers, plenty of time to boost the market even more.

Feel free to contact us at 1-888-386-3607 or fill out the form below to have one of our associates contact you.

The bill will expand the homebuyer tax credit to more families, phasing out for individuals with income above $125,000 and for joint filers with income about $225,000 (the current law credit phases out for individuals with income starting at $75,000 and for joint filers with income starting at $150,000). It also creates a $6,500 credit available to homebuyers who have been in their current residence for five or more consecutive years out of the last eight years. – Maryland RealEstateRama.com

For everyone who is taking advantage of the extended first time home buyer tax credit in Michigan, it’s important to remember that no matter when you purchase your first home you must file for the tax credit with you 2009 taxes. Speak to your financial counselor or tax man to find out exactly how to do this and claim your credit return.

When President Obama put pen to paper and extended the tax credit, he also extended certain jobless benefits that were all included in the ‘Worker, Homeownership and Business Assistance Act of 2009’. This bill was singed into effect at a time when the national unemployment rate has officially hit 10%, and Michigan’s unemployment rate stands at almost 15%, an amazing number! Even while the stock market is climbing and breaking records, and the economy is slowly turning around, the unemployment rate is continuing to rise.

This extension of the first time home buyers credit was a much needed break for many individuals looking to live that American dream in Michigan. While many first time buyers were scrambling to sign the paperwork before the November deadline, they now have a renewed sense of hope and some much needed time to find exactly what they’re looking for.

The initial tax credit for first time buyers gave a much needed boost to the real estate industry, and thus the economy. Many experts argued that without the tax extension, this volatile housing market that was beginning to stabilize would simply plummet. When it looked that the tax credit was going to expire in November, the housing market slowed and fear rushed back into the minds of those in the real estate industry.

Jim Shirley, a broker at Gum Tree Mortgage in Tupelo, Mississippi said 60 percent of the mortgages his company is working on now in New Albany, Oxford and Tupelo are directly related to the tax credit. – UPI.com

Joey Guyton, owner of J. Guyton Group, said 90 percent of his home sales over the past three months in a neighborhood geared at first-time homebuyers have been directly related to the tax credit. – UPI.com

The growth of the housing market over the summer was due greatly to the first time home buyer credit, and thanks to the extension the market will hopefully continue to grow well past the April deadline.

Credit counseling has become a way of life for many American households. And more and more people are rushing to credit counselors with the hope of getting some relief from the financial crisis. Although the economy is turning around very slowly, it seems that consumers are finding it hard to believe it. The debt help centers and the credit counseling agencies are still doing brisk business. And debtors hope that credit counseling can bring some monetary solvency to the households.

Does credit counseling really help?

Yes, it does. Undoubtedly, credit counseling is a good debt relief option that will show you the way to a debt free life. It has helped many debtors to wrap up their debts. But there is an important aspect that you should keep in mind. Approach a credit counselor when your debts are manageable or if you sense that you may face financial crisis in near future. This is because if you have allowed your debts to go out of control, you will have no other option but to file bankruptcy. It goes without saying.

What does a credit counselor do?

When you approach a credit counselor, he will assess your financial situation. You will have to give him details of your income, expenses, debts and other financial obligations. Once you are done with that, the credit counselor will suggest a debt relief measure that can meet your current financial requirement.

What does the credit counselor suggest?

Depending on which debt solution will help you to become debt free, a debt consolidation, debt management or DMP, debt settlement may be suggested. All these debt solutions aim at reducing your debt burden. But you must keep in mind that if a debt consolidation program is suitable for you, it may not bail out another debtor. Bankruptcy is also a debt relief option that will give you debt relief but at the cost of your credit rating. All the debt solutions affect your credit rating but bankruptcy hurts your credit rating the most.

Once you are out of debt, the amount you use for making payments for your debts will help you to build an emergency fund and increase your savings. (guest post from http://www.creditmagic.com)
